Our Story: A Legacy of Language
Hi, I’m Biljana, the founder of Little Lingo.
Little Lingo grew from my own journey of growing up in Australia, speaking only Serbian at home, learning English at school and discovering just how powerful language can be. That experience shaped a deep love for language and a desire to help children feel confident in both their mother tongue and any additional languages they learn.
Today, I create beautifully designed, culturally accurate flashcards that help little learners connect with their heritage while embracing new languages. What began as one Serbian alphabet deck has grown into a collection loved by families and educators around the world - all guided by one simple mission: helping little learners connect with big cultures.
Founder Story
Little Lingo began with a simple idea: in a multicultural country like Australia, finding quality educational resources in your mother tongue can be almost impossible.
I grew up in a Serbian household where Serbian was the only language spoken. When I started school, I didn’t know a word of English and joined the EAL program for my entire primary years. Those experiences sparked my love for language and showed me that it’s more than communication – it’s a bridge to culture, connection and identity.
I later became a teacher at my old primary school, where most students were EAL learners - a full circle moment. After five years in education and time in the corporate world, I combined both passions to create Little Lingo.
I saw how quickly our generation shifts to English when raising children and how little there was to support families wanting to keep their language alive. I wanted resources that were practical for parents, engaging for kids and true to each culture.
That’s how our first Serbian alphabet deck was born - pastel colours, sweet illustrations, child-friendly pronunciation guides and cultural accuracy at its heart. Now, our collection includes Serbian, Greek, Albanian and more to come.
What began as a personal project is now helping families and educators. At its core, Little Lingo is about the same thing - helping little learners connect with big cultures, one card at a time.
